Warm Greetings Friend Coming to Visit Talamanca,We are ATEC, the Talamancan Association of Ecotourism and Conservation. We’ve been around since 1989. We are a self-sustaining non-profit working with various NGOs, community groups, schools, and rural community ecotourism projects throughout Talamanca. So, ya think you have a bit of extra space in your luggage and want to offer to bring something to share, SUPER! Here are some ideas:

• Safety issues:

  • Reflectors for bicycles
  • Flashing light for back of bikes.
  • Safety vest
  • Flash lights
  • Reflector tap

• Garden projects:

  • Gardening tools Gardening tools
  • Clippers
  • Gloves
  • Hand shovels
  • Seeds (things that work: cucumber, corn, beans, peppers, cilantro, cabbage, melons, squashes)

• Painting projects:

  • Brushes
  • Rollers
  • Brushes for cleaning the surface before hand

• Education projects:

  • School Uniforms!
  • Notebooks
  • Kids picture books in English or Spanish.
  • Pencils/Pens
  • Art supplies
  • Computers or computer components (mouse, keyboard, Etc)
  • Color pencils
  • Chalk
  • Educational toys
  • Sports equipment (soccer)
  • Rulers—Metric,
  • All kinds of schools supplies for the teachers as well and the students

• Art Projects:

  • Carving tools (lots of gourd carving here)
  • Paints
  • Artistic paint brushes
  • Etc.

• Books:

  • Any kind of resource books
  • On ecology
  • On wildlife
  • Conservation
  • Climate change
  • Education
  • Sustainable development

  • Rubber boots

  • Cameras—Disposable or re-usable

  • Rechargeable batteries and the apparatus to recharge them.
  • A photocopy machine—could be at a school or could be at ATEC and ATEC could then donate copies to the schools and non-profits.
  • MONEY!
    • For emergency situations (food, water, transportation)
    • For buying trees to reforest
    • To buy construction materials for schools, NGO’s
    • To pay a construction manager to manage a volunteer project
    • To buy school books and uniforms for low income families
    • To buy anything else you can dream up, ooo, we have needs.
