Re:             Announcement of GOTV and Drop-In Voting Center

Democrats Abroad of Costa Rica will be hosting two simultaneous GET OUT THE VOTE events on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Aurola Holiday Inn in downtown San José, third floor. We hope you can come and/or tell other US citizens about the event. In case you cannot come, please post the attached VoteFromAbroad.org flyer where American can download their absentee ballot.  Thanks very much for your help.

I. The first is a nonpartisan event: A DROP-IN VOTING CENTER for the NOVEMBER 4TH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS (see our ads in the Sept. 12th and 19th editions of The Tico Times).  All US citizens who are eligible to vote and have not yet registered to vote absentee or have not yet received an absentee ballot from their home state are invited to vote in person by filling out a federal write-in ballot.   Bring a form of identification (US driver’s license or passport), the US address where you last lived or voted, and your Social Security number, in order to vote absentee.

If you haven’t yet registered to apply for your absentee ballot, you can do this beforehand at www.VoteFromAbroad.org. You will need to fill in, print out, sign, and mail your application. Your very last chance to register for the 2008 elections is at the September 27th meeting itself. For those of you who plan to fill out a federal write-in-ballot, you can find out who is running for Congress in your district by typing in the zip code of your US voting address at www.VoteSmart.org.

II. The parallel event (in an adjoining room) is a super-partisan OBAMA-BIDEN CELEBRATION PARTY with free coffee or tea, juice, wine, mini-sandwiches and brownies.  Highlights of the major speeches of the Democratic Convention and episodes of Jon Stuart’s The Daily Show will be shown on TV for those who want to see them.  Tables will be set up for partying, socializing and sharing your views about the progress of the campaign. Speeches welcome!  Obama-Biden posters, bumper stickers and campaign buttons will be on sale.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT: NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED!  BRING YOUR FRIENDS!

Be sure to watch the first of the Obama-McCain debates on Friday night the 26th.
