1. Manzanillo Gandoca Wildlife Refuge Meeting,

What: Meeting to elect the members the committee of property owners working for the protection of the Wildlife Refuge. This local environmental council will represent the property owners in the “comite zonal”. Other groups in this committee are fishermen, the Muni, MINAET, ect.

Where: at Selvin’s

When: 3:30 PM on Wednesday the 15^th

Who: All folks who own land in the Wildlife Refuge.

2. ReciCaribe!!

What: Start saving your recycling again!

Good news on the recycling front! The new board of directors of Reci. is working to set up a contract with our long time and trusted friends at the Biological Corridor. ReciCaribe regrets this (first time ever) temporary pause in pick-up service, but they are working hard to restart collection service by early August.

They will go back to collecting the basics to start with:

Plastics #1 and #2; Glass, and Aluminum.

There is a sum of money that still needs to be collected in order to pay some old debts to the hardworking employees (vacation pay and aguinaldos and such) and to raise a bit to get the truck ready for inspection. Talk to Maurizio at Café Viejo to do your part to get the system rolling again! Hooray! 2750 0817

Our Sheran from ATEC and our super-volunteer Erica along with Maurizio and Albert and Caser from Manzanillo did a recycling run last Thursday. They picked up one time from Manzanillo to BriBri and Cahuita! The truck they used that day was donated by platanero friend of the Corridor and gas in the truck donated by the Corridor.

Help the cause, and yourself, and rinse out your recyclables before storing them.

We are very excited to support the new ReciCaribe team working with the ACTBC!

3. Puerto Viejo School:

What: ATEC’s Susana Schik is working to fix up the Puerto Viejo School with a group of boy scouts from Canada, with the Bridge of Playa Negra, and with members of the Assembly of God church and parents from the school. They are building bathrooms for the kinder and scraping and repainting the whole school.

They are looking for additional volunteers this week.

When: NOW and all this week

Who: Anyone who cares about the education, health, and safety of the next generation.

4. Tourism Board Meeting:

What: Got a note from Rolando Soto announcing the Tourism Board annual meeting.

Where: Cultural House in Puerto Viejo

When: 3:15 PM

Who: Tourism Board members or folks interested in becoming members.

1. Refugio de Vida Silvestre Gandoca Manzanillo

QUE: Mañana hay una reunión para propietarios en el Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Gandoca Manzanillo (REGAMA). Es para elegir los representantes de los propietarios en el Concejo Local Ambiental ley 7788. Otros grupos en este comité son Pescadores, la municipalidad, y MINAET, entre otros.

2. Noticias de ReciCaribe:

¡Empiece a colectar de nuevo sus materiales reciclables en casa!

¡Hay NOTICIAS BUENAS! La junta nueva de Reci. está trabajando duro para establecer un contrato con nuestros confiables amigos del Corredor Biológico (ACBTC).

Lamentamos esta corta suspensión del servicio, pero están trabajando Duro para reiniciar el servicio a principios de agosto.

Para empezar van a colectar los materiales básicos:

Plástico #1 y #2, Vidrio, y  Aluminio.

También están luchando para colectar un monto de donaciones para poner la Asociación al día con los empleados fieles (salarios atrasados, aguinaldos y  vacaciones) y hacer las reparaciones del camión y dejarlo listo para la revisión técnica. Hablen con Maurizio de Café Viejo para hacer su contribución. Su teléfono en el restaurante es  2750 0817.

Sheran de ATEC y nuestra voluntaria Erica, fueron  el jueves pasado con Maurizio, Alberto y Kaser de Manzanillo a hacer la gira de recolección desde Manzanillo hasta BriBrí y Cahuita. El camión este día era donado de un amigo platanero del ACBTC (un gran amigo de la comunidad, y el combustible fue pagado por ACBTC.

Por Favor ayúdenos, y ayúdese a sí mismo, enjuagando sus materiales reciclables antes de guardarlos.

Estamos muy contentos por hacer este anuncio de ReciCaribe y tenemos muchas ganas de apoyar a la nueva junta directiva de ReciCaribe y a nuestros amigos del ACBTC en su nueva aventura con reciclaje en Talamanca!

3. La Escuela de Puerto Viejo

Que: Susana Schik de ATEC está trabajando con un grupo de guías y escouts de Canadá, con el Puente de Playa Negra, con miembros de la Iglesia Asambleas de Dios, y con padres y amigos de la Escuela de Puerto Viejo para hacer unas reparaciones, prepararla para pintar y pintarla. Están buscando su apoyo en estes trabajos.

Donde: En la Escuela de Puerto Viejo

Cuando: Hoy y esta semana.

Quien: Cualquier persona interesada en la educación y salud de los niños de nuestro pueblo.

Como: Pasar por la escuela y trabajar! Niños y adultos pueden ayudar.
