The Lewis family has kept Puerto Viejo happily fed with the first Caribbean Bakery in Puerto Viejo for many years.  In March 2009, Jonnathan Lewis, son of the original owner, moved back from San Jose and opened Cafeteria Ivon upstairs from where the family Caribbean Bakery used to be.  Jonathon thinks it is very important to keep the Caribbean traditions and his mother’s legacy alive, but has a passion for food that expands the menu beyond just traditional Caribbean food.

From the moment you come upstairs you will be met with a cool ocean breeze and smiling faces. Cafeteria Ivon offers an extensive specialty coffee, tea, and juice selection; Jonathan boasts that the creamy banana coffee is one of his specialties. 

There is something offered to please every palate and budget. Even though the vegan banana or banana-chocolate pancakes are served all day, they are the perfect way to start a busy day exploring the Caribbean.  Cafeteria I von also offers meal-sized salads and a veggie burger made fresh to order that will rock your taste buds.  Enjoy meat in your meal?? Try a casado or chicken fajitas.

Even if your stay in Puerto Viejo is short, a visit to Cafeteria Ivon is well worth the effort.  If you don’t have time for a meal, an appetizer of Yucca fries, Patacones, or traditional Caribbean baked good with a fresh and natural Batido will allow you to taste the love that is put into every dish served.
